Clubs in Midtown/Downtown

Halo

Always a good time any night of the week. Halo has been able to hold onto its pull since it opened its doors in 2002. Monday is industry night and Thursday through Saturday great crowds with Thursday probably being the best night for dancing. DJ Edo is there spins until they pull the plug on him. Negligable cover if any and it may be dead when you walk in at 10:30pm but don't sweat it, give it an hour or just until before midnight and the place fills up-so fast your head will spin. Once you see quality ladies walk by your head will spin back into place. Don't be fooled by the address, the entry is along 6th just off of West Peachtree.

Sutra

Great drum and bass/house music, cool design but overall smaller than most of the clubs in Atlanta. Nevertheless, it doesn't take a huge crowd to make it seem full either. Usually a reasonable cover-$10 and you can get free entry cards around town at select locations (Mary Mac's). Definitely a cool bar, cool mixed crowd:black/white, different ethnicities-and fun place to dance, or hang out next to the dance floor and people watch while you are drinking.

Cosmo Lava

Cosmo Lava has become increasingly popular since the Buckhead shutdown. CL prides itself on providing two clubs under one roof. In actuality its more like 5 different atmospheres. Chill out on the patio, dance to top 40 inside Lava, hit the bar inside Cosmo, or find some harder electronica downstairs. It’s all here, and it’s every Firday and Saturday night. Cover is usually $10 but well worth it. Park across the street for $5-$7. Get there around 11:30 and latch on to a bachelorette party quickly by buying her a shot. 404.873.6189

Opera

Coming off of a major renovation, this club is the current hot spot and has a cool exterior patio but the drinks are expensive and the music sucks-mash ups DJ's ruin the location of what was once the definition of techno/trance. If that is your thing then by all means, have at it. As with all clubs, try to get there just before 11pm. You will be early and the place will probably be empty but there will be no line and typically no covers that early. Fret not early-goer, it will transform quickly. 404.874.0428

The Mark

Located in downtown right next to sidebar Click here has had a long standing as one of the coolest clubs in the ATL but it is not a first find so if you are looking for something underground, and literally underground the Mark is a great night out. Keep visits to Friday and Saturday or special events otherwise crowd can be thin. Door people could be cooler, but hey the club has to make money. Architecturally, one of the more avant garde places to dance in the city. Parking is tough in the heart of downtown. Special event September 28th with Chuck Love, J Luv and Miss Valentine

Compound

Gone-yes it is closed but I bet only for some renovations and it should reopen soon, but no promises.
