Carvers Country Kitchen

Only open for lunch. By far the greatest soul food place since Thelma's left us. Located on west side at 1118 West Marietta Street. Get there before noon or wait until 12:30-I suggest getting there early to secure your seat and your meal. Then, make sure to crab the cheese biscuit-awesome. By far the best experience I have had at a restaurant in a long time.

Veni Viti Vici

Always a good cool-not the hippest restaurant in town but a good old fancy favorite. Entrees in the $20s. Definitely a favorite for lunch and a first date. Meet at the bar and then enjoy a wonderful gourmet meal at a reasonably gourmet price.

Cypress St. Plate and Pint

Just opened in the old location of Toast which always had a great location and cool design but it was never busy and the food never really delivered. The new addition is great for pregaming before walking to Halo which is right around the corner.

Top Floor

Okay, I like this restaurant, but seriously, the Loaf has run 5 reviews in the past three weeks...Check it out before you can't get in the door. My supreme hope is that Top Floor can sustain and will not be gone once the trend is over, but just in case, check it out now..

Globe

Awesome location and great design by local GATech Architecture professor Marc Cottle. Cool bar scene most nights of the week just after 7:00pm, but you will throw down, especially if you drink like my dates do-goodness. Sit at the bar, hit the dining room or head out to the patio.

Repast

An exquisite culinary experience with exotic fusion dishes and a very cool space, but very loud for a first date-better for a second or third or a double date.

JCT Kitchen

Great location, cool design, very quaint and great place for the first date but I was not overly impressed with the food but not enough to not post it on the site because of the rest fo the wonderful attributes. Start at the bar and on a nice night grab a table on the rear patio-make sure your date has a jacket these days.

Chow Baby

Awesome stir-fry and all you can eat, and considred best date place 2006 by the Loaf but I have never taken a date out to a 10$ meal for a first date, but if you roll taht way, more power to ya.

Luckie Food Lounge

By far, hands down the tightest designed restaurant/club in Atlanta since Halo opened five years ago. Great place to hang out and not sure if they are trying to change clientele, but I just heard their thursday night is Grey's Anatomy night. So wait, I 'get to' watch TV with a chic before we are even dating-sweet. Hey, whatever night it is, the design of this space is so tight I would watch Dancing with the Stars there. Nah, no i wouldn't.

Mary Macs

If it is your first time into this trip back to old Atlanta, tell the waitress you need a little bowl of potlicker to begin. This is good old country food, very inexpensive and Mary Mac's is classic for taking family or friends who are in from out of town. Established in 1945 this is one of the few remaining old gems around the city-not the greatest culinary delight but a delight all around.

Rare

Rare has quickly become one of Atlanta's trendiest restaurants/bars with 'Soul Food Tapas' and fresh fruit drinks. Voted best place to flirt by Atlanta Magazine July 07. Check it out but expect a crowd.

Figo-Howell Mill

If you live in Atlanta and have not checked out any of the Figos, this should be your weekend...Great date place, typically hidden away and cool atmosphere, plus it is cheap so you don't feel like you are breaking the bank ordering a bottle of wine...My special of the week: Tuscan Steak Salad Thinly sliced broiled sirloin steak on a bed of romaine salad with red onions, cherry tomatoes, gorgonzola cheese and red wine dressing $ 8
